Ultralight plane crashes near Carthage

An ultralight plane landed in a tree in Moore County Monday. The pilot walked away.

— A pilot was uninjured Monday when his ultralight plane crashed in Moore County, authorities said.

Authorities said Mark Olsen, 53, of Durham, crashed near the intersection of Sunset Drive and Dowd Road outside of Carthage at about 10:30 a.m.

The plane wreckage was caught in some trees.

    Sounds like he was attempting to fly into the airport there for lunch. I can't remember the name of the place at the moment but they do have great lunches.

    THe good thing is ultralights can usually glide if there is engine trouble. Most likely that is what happened here abd it probably contributed to him being able to walk away. Glad to hear he is ok!

    Thank God for that.

    I often worry about the planes that take off from the Angier Airport. They seem to fly so close to the tops of the trees sometimes.
