— The inside lane of southbound U.S. Highway 1 will be closed between N.C. Highway 55 and New Hill Holleman Road in Wake County Friday to allow a contractor to pour bridge concrete.

The closure will take place from 9 a.m. until no later than 4 p.m., according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

The work is part of the N.C. Turnpike Authority’s Western Wake Freeway project.

"I am so glad they're building this highway...it will make my drive from Sanford to alot of Wake County/Durham destinations so much shorter and quicker! - oceancandle"

You'll have the highway to yourself because very few people are going to pay the toll.

I guess it depends on your destination in Wake County. My daily destination is on Capital Blvd. Just outside the beltline. THe new loop will not benefit me whatsoever.
