— Deputies found the bodies of a mother and daughter Saturday morning while conducting a welfare check at a home on Humie Olive Road.

Melissa Mitchell McLain, 44, and her daughter, Ashley Nicole Fite, 17, who both lived at the home at 7628 Humie Olive Road, were identified as the victims. Both died from apparent gunshot wounds.

Authorities said they received a phone call around 12:45 a.m. from a "concerned person," asking to check inside the home. Deputies found McLain and Fite at about 1 a.m., officials said.

Lemuel Gabriel Miller, 47, of the same address, was suspected in the shooting, according to the sheriff's office. Miller was found dead around 8 a.m. Saturday in the 1400 block of Cooper Store Road in Harnett County. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot, according to a news release.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing. No further information has been released.

A tragic situation, but it's a shame of how the bashers and the loosely lipped racist comments, never seem to appear, when it's based and about certain cities, counties and race.

Thank you all for not letting this tragedy go to waste. Most of you are pushing your political agenda at the expense of this Mother and Daughter. Way to stay classy y'all...

The NRA and other pro-gun groups sell people on the fantasy that guns in the home make people safer. They ignore the fact that, as in this case, a gun is far more likely to harm the owner or a family member. Like many of the posters here they deliberately discount the potential for such harm by arguing that some other instrumentality could be used to commit murder. However, in this country the leading cause of homicide and suicide is overwhelmingly firearms as they make death quicker and easier to inflict.

NRA had zero involvement in this or any other murder or CRIMINAL act of gun violence. A family is suffering because of the selfish act of another human being.

A knife is NOT the same as a gun - it's not as fast, efficient, or easy as a gun so stop pretending it is. Pulling a trigger is MUCH more impersonal and easier than shoving a blade into someone's chest. IMO, someone who is cowardly enough to carry a gun in the first place would be less likely to use a knife.

A tragic situation. A senseless loss of life. Yet there are those who choose to bash the NRA when this guy could have done the the same thing with a butcher knife out of a kitchen drawer.

Big Willie is right. If he was intent to kill them, he could have done it with anything, and it could have been worse for those 2 lovely ladies. The gun didn't make him do it. I just hope that they didn't suffer :(
