Two whales beached, die on SC coast

A mother and calf whale that beached themselves Thursday morning near North Myrtle Beach have died, according to the Horry County Police Department.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A mother and calf whale that beached themselves Thursday morning near North Myrtle Beach have died, according to the Horry County Police Department.
Visitors to the beach, near Kingston Plantation, tried to push the whales back into the water but they resisted, according to a reports.
A marine biologist from Coastal Carolina University and a veterinarian from the Ark Animal Hospital in Surfside Beach attending to the whales but were unable to save them, police said.
