Two Triangle students finalists in national science competition
Two Triangle students have been selected from more than 1,800 people as finalists in a nationwide science research competition.
Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — Two Triangle students have been selected from more than 1,800 people as finalists in a nationwide science research competition.
Alec Arshavsky, a senior at East Chapel Hill High School in Chapel Hill, and Parth Thakker, a senior at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, were among the 40 finalists announced Wednesday in the Intel Science Talent Search.
The two will join the other finalists in Washington, D.C., March 6-12 to compete for $630,000 in awards from the Intel Foundation, including a $100,000 first-place prize.
Arshavsky and Thakker had to submit original research to nationally recognized scientists and were chosen in part based upon their overall potential as future leaders in the scientific community.
