Brave New Girls: Stories of Girls Who Science and Scheme
Two Triangle moms and authors are among the 22 young adult authors to pen a short story featuring a brainy young heroine in a new anthology called "Brave New Girls: Stories of Girls Who Science and Scheme."

The collection, which was released this week, is edited by author Mary Fan, the author of several young adult sci-fi and fantasy books. "Brave New Girls" is geared toward inspiring girls ages 12 and up to study science and engineering.

Proceeds will go towards scholarships for women through the Society of Women Engineers. The first anthology, released last year, has raised several thousand dollars toward the scholarship.

Contributing to the latest edition are two local authors - Karissa Laurel, a young adult author, and Michelle Leonard, an author, engineer and regular contributor to The Winged Pen, an online group of authors.
The book is available through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Indiebound and Quail Ridge Books.
