I've been a resident of Brentwood for almost 7 years, and I'd never live any place else. The community is filled with families, retirees, and in-betweeners, and we have a very special relationship with all of them. Families can walk their children to school, walk their dogs, even power walk on early mornings, and feel safe. The flags put up every 4th of July, the Luminaries on Christmas Eve. It's a very special neighborhood. Crime is unfortunate, but we have a strong community watch, and neighbors that care, and will continue too.

I think some people like Faeiregirl65 are confusing Brentwood apartments with Brentwood subdivision. Granted the apartments are not somewhere I want to live.

Brentwood subdivision continues to have events include the beautiful Christmas Eve luminaries. Go to www.beautifulbrentwood.com to see a community that cares.

I live in Brentwood, and aside from being associated with the other side of New Hope Church rd. it is a nice enough place. I am not sure what these other posters are speaking of about it being otherwise, but as others have stated crime happens everywhere.

I beg to differ with your statement that Brentwood was never a nice place.

I've known people that have lived out there 30 plus years. Brentwood is a nice subdivision and I've never known of gangs, drugs, etc... in this neighborhood.

Sure, ALL neighborhoods have their drawbacks, but Brentwood subdivision is a nice, family oriented, wonderful place to live.

LOL...note to self...don't move near Brentwood when I move to Wake County!

intuit - I transplanted here when I was born at WakeMed in 1978.... and Brentwood has for my entire 32 years of being a Raleigh native been a hood for drugs, theives, gangs and violence.... It was a ton of fun being a teenager, a very sketchy and dangerous place to be and yes that equaled fun as a teen. If it was a great place in the 60s then so be it, before my time. However, my experience for my entire life is that Brentwood is a hole!!

Also, odds are they were travelling on New Hope Church Rd. which is an entirely different road from New Hope Rd.

  • carolinarox Oct 29, 2010

Uh, I imagine it happened in the Brentwood Apartments section of Brentwood. And it still is a great neighborhood with great people in it.

"Brentwood wa NEVER a nice place." That is a ridiculous statement. Brentwood used to be the best neighborhood in Raleigh. There were community events, parades, a wonderful community day at the park. It was the place young families with children wanted to live. That was back in the 60s and early 70s, but it was a WONDERFUL community. I lived in Raleigh for almost 60 years and was a resident there in the early 70s. Don't speak about that which you know nothing!
