— Authorities in Craven County said at least four people were shot near Vanceboro Tuesday evening.

Representatives of Duke Energy Progress told WNCT that some of the victims worked for contractor Townsend Trees and were clearing branches around power lines at the time of the shooting.

According to the Craven County Sheriff's Department, the person who initiated the shooting was shot by deputies, and that person along with the three victims was taken to an area hospital.

The State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate, which is standard procedure for an officer-involved shooting.

The identities of those involved, any motive and their conditions were not released Tuesday night.

If only someone was not denied their constitutional right to bare arms this could all have been avoided eh? I frequently see power company personnel wearing hoodies…maybe they looked “suspicious.” We should “enforce existing laws” but if we charge the shooter we will be traveling down a “slippery slope” of “infringing” on something…

    what a great country....NOT.
Since when does Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, get trumped by gun ownership, regardless of mental capacity?

Stuckhere: I think you are confusing all Americans who believe in the Constitution of the United States of America with members of the NRA.

I'm not a member of the NRA, but I am a strong supporter of the second amendment and the right to protect myself and my family.

As for this story, I wonder if the shooter got carried away when the tree company hacked some trees in his front yard to get the limbs away from power lines. I argued with the power company many years ago about absolutely ruining about 5 15 year old pines. The topped them about 12 feet off the ground. They finally agreed to come back and put the poor trees out of their misery. It was a mercy cutting.

The power company comes through and tries to prevent power outages from storms, but they can sure make pretty things ugly without trying very hard.

They were shot with a shotgun. Even Joe Biden recommends carrying one of those.

A shooting in the US...this is just an everyday event in the United States of the NRA...why even report it anymore?
