Cameron, N.C. — Two people were shot Monday night at a shopping center on N.C. Highway 87 near Plantation Drive in Harnett County, authorities said.
Just before 8 p.m., officers were called to a Bojangles' parking lot about shots fired. A second call to 911 referenced shots fired at a Little Caesars restaurant about 300 yards away.
In the Little Caesars parking lot, crime scene investigators were processing an SUV that might have been linked to the shootings. Witnesses said both victims were shot inside that vehicle.
Zach Vozzelli said he was working at Jelly Beans Frozen Yogurt when a woman came in and told his boss that someone had been shot.
"I was handed a phone and told to call 911. I came out here to check what happened. A male and female were shot in the back and legs and back of the arm," Vozzelli said. "I went over to talk to them. He said he had no idea who it was. He had just been shot."
He said the woman was hysterical, but the man remained calm. Both victims were conscious and able to talk. They were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, authorities said.
"There was a fair amount of blood," Vozzelli said. "It was gruesome."
Authorities have not released any information about a motive, but did say they were searching for several suspects.
