Two people were injured Monday in an armed robbery near Pullen Park near North Carolina State University in Raleigh.

N.C. State University Police said in a crime warning email to students that the men were driving near the intersection of Western Boulevard and Ashe Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. when they were robbed of their car by two men wearing dark-colored hooded jackets or sweatshirts.

The victims were pistol whipped and received lacerations to the head, police said. They were able to walk to a nearby gas station for help and were treated at Rex Hospital and released.

Police initially responded to a report about a robbery and shooting, but authorities said no one was shot.

The assailants fled in one the victims' silver 2005 Toyota Camry with North Carolina license plate ZZR-7004. The car was recovered in a nearby parking lot, but the assailants are still on the loose. A detailed description of the men wasn't immediately available.

Anyone who has information about the crime is asked to call the Raleigh Police Department at 919-829-1911 or the N.C. State campus police at 919-515-3000.

A much clearer picture of what happened courtesy of channell 11 It happened in a parking lot at the park shortly before 10 p.m.

Police said two male victims of the robbery were approached by two suspects, at least one of whom was armed with a handgun.

Both suspects were described as black males, each standing about 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing about 165 pounds. They were wearing black hoodies and black jeans.

At least one gunshot was fired during the crime. However, neither victim was struck by gunfire

There are a few sketchy apartments along the railroad tracks off Ashe Avenue, this area has seen an enormous transformation as the boarding houses have been converted in to single family homes. The Governor Morehead Campus and Pullen Park are beautiful, and there is a very large (and expensive) apartment complex going up with retail and office space. Many of the older large homes in the vicinity have also transformed into professional (mostly law) offices. The district that includes this corridor is a quiet area.

That being said, I can't say for western parts of the Western Blvd Corridor around Gorman and Kaplan Dr.

Are Campuses Being A Target!!!!

" it fronts Western Blvd and is closer to some sketchier neighborhoods"- while that MIGHT have been true 15 years ago, this area has cleaned up a LOT in the last decade or so. Ashe Ave used to be a scary place to go down- day or night. It's now got families with children living there, houses are being redone and brought up to modern standards and many are back to being single family homes after many years as boarding houses or duplex type arrangements. I happen to live very close to Pullen Park and have for 20 years, it's not a bad place at all. It's very well lit, this is the first time in my memory something like this has happened over there. People have this concept that because it's "downtown" it must be dangerous- couldn't be further from the truth.

The men were driving,

EMPTY SPACE,

then the attackers took off in the car.

Can someone fill in the empty space? Were the guys overcome at a stoplight? Doors locked, windows up? What happened?
