GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Two men are dead after a late Saturday car accident on Grantham School Road near Sutton Town Road, the state highway patrol said.

Andrew Vernon Britt, 18, and Franklin Purvis II, 18, both of Mt. Olive, died in the accident that occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m.

A 1999 Mercury traveling northbound on Grantham School Road crossed left of center, hitting a Progress Energy bucket truck, which was traveling southbound on Grantham School Road, head-on, Highway Patrol Trooper Jason Edwards said.

Britt was driving the Mercury and Purvis was the only passenger in the car. The driver of the Progress Energy truck suffered minor injuries.

The accident is under investigation.

Britta and Purvis had recently graduated Southern Wayne High School in Wayne County. Britt was planning to attend Campbell University in the fall, while Purvis had planned to attend Wayne Community College.
