Two policemen start 'Project Hurt' to support officers hurt in line of duty
Two St. Louis police officers are now reaching out to other officers who were wounded in the line of duty.
Posted — UpdatedSergeants Charles Lowe and Tom Lake started "Project Hurt" to support fellow officers.
Lowe began his journey back in 2015.
"For me, it was July 14. 2015, I was ambushed in the Central West End," said Lowe.
Lowe was wearing his protective vest and survived.
Tom Lake recalled the night he was ambushed in 2016.
"I was ambushed on November 20, 2016. I was sitting at a stoplight at Hampton and Pernod," said Lake.
Lake said he was shot in the face and by the grace of God survived. After he was injured, he started a group aimed at helping his fellow first responders.
"We came up with the acronym Project HURT which stands for healing, uplift, restore, transformation," said Lowe.
It's a way for survivors to connect with each other and help support their fellow officers.
"We found out once we started sitting and talking around, emotionally we were going through the same thing," said Lake.
The officers from "Project Hurt" have a community project coming up Friday. They will be helping to build a playground at Danforth Elementary school in the Riverview Gardens School District.
