Two motorcyclists killed, three injured in Goldsboro wreck

Two motorcyclists were killed and three were seriously injured during a wreck on US-13 near Hood Swamp Road Saturday afternoon, troopers said.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Two motorcyclists were killed and three were seriously injured during a wreck on US-13 near Hood Swamp Road Saturday afternoon, troopers said.

A truck, driven by 32-year-old Billy Joe Fowler, was traveling north around 1:50 p.m. when it crossed the center line and struck five of six motorcyclists in the other lane.

Two of the motorcyclists – Charles Poe Jr., 59, of Greenville, and Lenwood Whitley, 57, of Chocowinity – were killed. The others were seriously injured.

Troopers charged Fowler with driving while impaired, two counts of felony death by a motor vehicle, one county of felony serious injury and reckless driving, trooper said.
