— Two North Carolina people died from flu-related illness last week, according to figures released Thursday by the state Department of Health and Human Services.

Since the season began in October, 106 people have died statewide from influenza. The six-month season normally peaks in January and February.

A year ago, 59 people died from flu-related illnesses.

The best protection against the flu is a flu shot, which is available for anyone 6 months old or older. It takes at least two weeks to build up a full immunity against the virus.

Hand-washing, coughing into your sleeve and keeping a safe distance from people with flu symptoms are practical ways to help prevent the spread of the flu.

More about the flu?? Does WRAL have stock in the pharmacies that make the vaccine or something?
I imagine 2 people died last week of some other illness, too, but you don't see it being reported all over the place.
