Two more arrested in Fayetteville shooting

Investigators on Tuesday arrested two Fayetteville teenagers in connection with a July 9 attempted robbery and shooting.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Investigators on Tuesday arrested two Fayetteville teenagers in connection with a July 9 attempted robbery and shooting.

Christopher Michael Hughes, 16, of 1686 Jersey Drive, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery. Hughes remained at the Cumberland County jail Tuesday under a $400,000 bond.

Darrell LeMont Cozart, 17, of 7509 Southgate Road, is charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

The two teenagers, along with 21-year-old Dominique Freddie, who was apprehended Saturday, were charged in connection with the shooting of Gregorio Atiles, who was walking home on South Reilly Road at about 3 a.m. when he was approached by four males, police said. One of the men was armed with a shotgun and attempted to rob Atiles, who was shot as he ran way.

Freddie was charged with attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery.

Detectives are still searching for Jaytez Anthony James, 21, who has been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
