Chapel Hill, N.C. — The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill put students on alert Monday after a strong arm robbery near campus.
In an email to students, faculty and staff, the UNC Department of Safety said two men who are not UNC students were walking west on Franklin Street toward Church Street – near Ackland Art Museum – around 2 a.m. Monday when three men in a silver sedan pulled up to them, got out of the car, assaulted them and took a wallet and cellphone from one of the victims.
No weapons were reportedly seen, campus police said.
The victims reported to Chapel Hill police that they had a brief conversation with the men minutes prior to the robbery while the men were walking in the same direction on Franklin Street.
Descriptions of the three men were vague. They were described as being in their mid-20s, slim and average in height. One of the men, according to Chapel Hill police, had short dreadlocks.
Chapel Hill police are asking that anyone with information about the robbery to call the Chapel Hill police department at 919-968-2760 or Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515.
