Two men rescued from capsized boat in Chatham County

Posted May 4, 2010

— Two men were rescued after their boat capsized in the Shearon Harris Lake in Chatham County just after 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The men were caught in chest deep water not far from the Cross Point Road in New Hill.

They called authorities on their cell phones, but rescuers had trouble finding them deep in one of the coves. However, WRAL’s Sky 5 spotted them and was able to help guide authorities to them.

Both men were pulled from the water and appeared to be OK.

I wonder if they were catching anything. How 'bout an update WRAL.

Way to go WRAL! This could've ended badly. The older guy might not have been able to swim/walk to safety.

As close as they were to the shore, I can't understand why they didn't simply drag the boat out, flip it over to drain the water out and shove back into the lake to continue their outting.

at bottleworks...you do realize there is NO nuclear water...all that lake is used for is to cool pipes...no contamination whatsoever...do you really think they would put anything radioactive in a lake that they then let the public use? Seriously...

Uh, flip the boat back over????

not swimming, son was casting his pole when it went out of his hands and into the lake. He was very upset, so had to do what a mother has to do.

Why go in that lake? Jordan Like is only a couple miles away and no Nuclear water.
