WALLACE, N.C. — Police are investigating two shooting deaths in the Duplin County town of Wallace on Sunday.

Walter West, 44, was found dead in his home on Raleigh Road at about 3:30 p.m. when his wife and 10-year-old son returned from the grocery store, police said. Neighbors told investigators that they heard loud voices and gunshots.

About seven hours later, Michael Lamb, 25, was gunned down outside the Fast Lane convenience store on N.C. Highway 41 West as he talked with a utility worker, police said. Witnesses told police that a masked man in a black hooded sweatshirt ran up to Lamb, shot him and ran off toward Raleigh Road.

Police said it's too early to say if the shootings are related.

A person of interest has been questioned in West's death, but no arrests have been made in either case.
