Two Marines from Camp Lejeune killed in Afghanistan

Sergeant Daniel M. Angus, 28, and Lance Cpl. Zachary D. Smith, 19, were were riflemen assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 7, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade in Helmand province.

Two Marines deployed from Camp Lejeune died Sunday in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense said Tuesday.

Sergeant Daniel M. Angus, 28, and Lance Cpl. Zachary D. Smith, 19, were riflemen assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 7, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade in Helmand province.

Angus, of Thonotosassa, Fla., entered the Marine Corps in September 2003 and was promoted to the rank of sergeant on May 1, 2007. He was on his third combat deployment, having served in Iraq from July 2004 to February 2005 and again from December 2005 to March 2006.

Smith, of Hornell, N.Y., entered the Marine Corps in July 2008 and was promoted to lance corporal on April 1. He was on his first deployment.
