Two killed, trooper injured in Haywood County crash
Two people died after a crash involving a trooper on U.S. 74 in Haywood County Tuesday, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. — Two people died after a crash involving a trooper on U.S. 74 in Haywood County Tuesday, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
A trooper was driving west on U.S. 74 with blue lights and sirens activated when a van traveling east on U.S. 74 made a U-turn into the trooper's path, Baker said.
Baker said the patrol vehicle struck the van in the westbound lane. Two people in the vehicle suffered injuries and died at the scene.
The trooper involved in the crash was taken to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, Baker said.
