Two injured I-85 wreck in Durham

Posted August 31, 2011

— Two people were injured in a single-vehicle wreck that shut down all southbound lanes of Interstate 85 for about two hours on Wednesday, authorities said.

The wreck occurred at mile marker 171, near the Durham Freeway interchange, at about 2 p.m. when a car driven by Erica Alston, of Durham, ran off of the road and struck a guardrail before spinning out.

Her passenger, Brent Whitted, 23, also of Durham, was thrown from the car.

Alston and Whitted were taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not available.

The wreck remains under investigation.

Quote from fitteryou: "NC drivers speed, talk on cell, no blinkers, etc"

It's not limited to just NC. Bad drivers are in California, New York, Michigan, Indiana, Texas, I could go on but you catch my drift.

Also, at least in developed countries, there are designated places for pedestrians, motor vehicles, and bikes. Try driving in Mumbai or Beijing. It's anarchy.

The picture is changing because it's a live feed from a traffic camera. They're updating the picture from time to time to show what's going on.

See, it just changed again! Must be fake!

And another thing, why is the picture always changing? Is this a real event or made up? Can someone explain?

People always in a hurry driving to fast & not paying attention. Driving to fast on tires not rated for that speed also. No sympathy from me. Way to many bad drivers out there.

RB is exactly right! NC drivers speed, talk on cell, no blinkers, etc. For such nice people their driving is rotten and dagnerous. Hello? We are not in NASCAR now wake up and respect the law, driving, and each other. Too many people die here as a result of silly driving accidents. I can only assume this is yet another. Just last week a former high schooler was killed. NC needs to make it much tougher to get a license, clearly something is not right on our highways. We have a beautiful state but these accidents are wrecking it.
