Two Halifax County men charged in crimes against children

Posted September 26, 2012

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office announced two arrests Wednesday in separate cases of crimes against children.

The first incident happened in August 2011, when detectives responded to Pitt Memorial Hospital for a report about a child with serious physical injuries. An investigation led to the arrest of Tony Orlando Whitaker Jr., 21, from Enfield.

Whitaker was charged with felony child abuse and held at the Halifax County jail under a $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 17.

In the second case, Littleton police arrested Carlton Stanley Lee, 60, on Sept. 15. Lee was wanted on an outstanding warrant from the sheriff’s office for a charge of indecent liberties with a child.

Lee was held at the Halifax County Detention Center under a $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 17.

The sheriff’s office did not provide more information on either case.

I went out to the NC sex offenders registary last night and what is even more disturbing is the sentences these people get. Talk about a joke! 6 months to 18 months for taking indecent liberties with a minor. Gosh, they get to take a 'brief' vacation before returning to society to start their spree again... Sick.

$10 and $30,000?? What a crock! They'd get more if they were found with cocaine for their personal use!

These bonds are a joke, If I were these kids parents I'd post it myself on rhe condition that it be mandatory I get to see them safely home. NOT

There is an android app called offender search. You can see what sex offenders are living in every area. U can even put your kids phone gps on so it can track it. Today, you have to be one step ahead of these animals. At least if you know where they live, and if they live next to you or one of their friends, you can make a smart decision to not allow them to go somewhere.
