Aberdeen, N.C. — A Moore County native was one of two Fort Bragg-based soldiers killed in Afghanistan on Saturday, the military announced Sunday.
Staff Sgt. Justin C. Marquez and Warrant Officer Joseph L. Schiro were shot while on foot patrol in Chak district of Afghanistan's Wardak Province.
Marquez, 25, of Aberdeen, and Schiro, 27, of Coral Springs, Fla., served with the 1st Special Forces Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group Airborne.
