Woman, 2 children injured in Sampson County wreck

Autryville, N.C. — Two young children and one adult were injured Saturday afternoon in a crash involving a tractor-trailer in Sampson County, troopers said.
The crash happened around 1:15 p.m. on NC 24 at Pumpkintown Road near Autryville.
Troopers said that Stella Watson, 65, of Garland, was traveling west on NC 24 when she crossed the center line, overcorrected and went under a tractor-trailer driven by Michael Melton, of Clinton.
Her two grandsons, ages 6 and 3, were taken by medical helicopter to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill for treatment. Watson was also taken to UNC Hospital.
According to family member the 6-year-old was in intensive care Saturday night with a broken leg, arm and hip. He also suffered injuries to the face and head, while the 3-year-old suffered some bumps and bruises. Watson was being treated for a broken hip, leg and punctured lung.
No other information was immediately available. The wreck remains under investigation.
