ENFIELD, N.C. — Halifax County sheriff's deputies arrested two men wanted in connection with the attempted robbery and shooting of two men outside an Enfield home late Oct. 15.

Jeffrey Clark, 22, and Jimell Horton, 25, both of Enfield, both face charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and going armed to the terror of the public. Horton was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Detective B.L. Martin said that the victims told deputies that they were leaving a home on Mars Lane when armed men lying in wait ambushed them. The armed men demanded money, and when a scuffle broke out, shots were fired.

One man was shot in the abdomen, and the second was wounded on his forehead and forearm, Martin said.

He added that the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Horton and Clark were both placed in the Halifax County jail. Clark was given a $205,000 bond, and Horton a $75,000 bond. They were both scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 22.

Horton was convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon in 2007 and served more than three years in prison, according to state Department of Correction records. He served an additional eight-month sentence in 2008 after violating the terms of his release.

DOC records show that Horton racked up 11 infractions while in prison, including assault person with a weapon, active rioter, fighting and involvement with a gang.

Clark served probation for a 2005 conviction for simple assault, according to DOC records.
