WILSON, N.C. — A Wilson man and his wife face numerous charges in the death of a man killed early Friday while riding his moped.

Hugh Bolton Johnston, 58, of 3042 N.C. Highway 42 East, Wilson, was about a mile from his home when a vehicle hit him and threw him about 175 feet.

Troy Demonte Gunter, 39, and Nicole Owens Gunter, 34, both of 627 Walnut St., were charged Sunday in the case.

Troy Gunter was jailed under a $30,000 secured bond on charges of felony hit and run involving serious injury or death, involuntary manslaughter and driving while license revoked.

Nicole Gunter was also charged with hit and run, aiding and abetting and aiding and abetting driving while license revoked. She was jailed under a $10,000 secured bond.

State troopers found the front bumper and grill of a car that they were able to link to the couple, according to a North Carolina State Highway Patrol spokesman.

He would not say where because the investigation is still active.
