Two charged in death of 2-year-old girl

Posted December 7, 2010

— Two people have been charged in the death of a 2-year-old Wilson girl, police said Tuesday.

Angel Lamm Kirby, 21, and Matthew John Redance, 24, both of 3701 Ashbrook Drive, Apt. 603, are charged with first-degree murder of Alyssia Lynn Kirby.

Police said the two called 911 on Nov. 29 to report that Kirby's 2-year-old daughter was unresponsive. Kirby and Redance flagged down a Wilson officer, who escorted them to the Wilson Medical Center. The child was pronounced dead upon arrival.

An autopsy determined the girl died as a result of injuries not consistent with natural causes, police said.

After further investigation, Kirby and Redance were arrested on Monday. They were being held Tuesday in the Wilson County jail without bond.

Police are continuing to investigate the girl's death. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at 252-399-2327 or 252-399-2331 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.

OK...I live close to them and I know people who attended the funeral..But it makes me sick to my stomach the fact that Everybody ASSUMES that the mother and boyfriend are automatically guilty of child abuse!! This little girl may have died by accident!!! Unintentional death...ever heard of that?? Everybody wants to point the finger right at the parent....I am a young parent of two young boys....I love them to death!! It makes me sad that if something ever happened to one of my cfhildren all you fools would point the finger right at me! put yourself in her shoes...all you people that say "ooh she looks like a drugy..look at ther face" What would your face look like if you just lost you little girl?? OOH AND HERE'S A GOOD ONE FOR YOU: NOBODY MENTIONED HOW THE LITTLE GIRL WAS WITH HER FATHER JUST HOURS PRIOR TO HER DEATH...HAD BEEN WITH THE FATHER FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS...THE FATHER EVEN TOOK HER TO THE DOCTOR THE MORNING OF HER DEATH!! BUT YALL JUST KEEP POINTING YOUR FINGERS AT THE MOTHER

I have known Angel Kirby for 10 years, and I know for a fact that she loved her little girl to death. I find it very hard to believe that she would intentionally kill Alyssa, but according this these reports I could be wrong. I will not believe that Angel murdered her daughter until they find her guilty. Though, I did not know the boyfriend, I have heard bad things about him! Angel on the other hand is a very sweet and caring person and she was a great mother! There was absolutely zero abuse going on in that home on a regular basis! Like everyone else I would like to know the story behind Alyssa's death!

We can all sit here and say that we would never hurt a child, we can all sit here and say that we are better than these two individuals, but what are we doing to stop them. Here are a few things we can do. When you suspect child abuse, I don't care if it is your best friend REPORT THEM. SOMEONE at some point saw this little girl and "thought" something was wrong. You have to report those "feelings" because more often than not you were right. We all have to stand up to this! Child abuse is everywhere, every person no matter how big or small is responsible for preventing child abuse. Go to someone in charge give them your ideas on how to stop it, raise money, go to college and get a degree on how to stop it. Stop saying it should stop, go out there and stop it yourself! Stand up for children, when you see something report it, even the smallest signs, a child not smiling at their birthday party, fear of strangers, unexplained bruises, multiple trips to the ER. REPORT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the frank??!! People who don't want children should take all measures possible in order to NOT get pregnant. And in the event that they do become preggers, give the child up for adoption. There are people out there who want kids more than anything, but have trouble conceiving. Give your unwanted child to a family who does want that child! Remember, a baby does't ask to be born much less get to pick it's parents. Don't punish that baby for your mistake!

Not to justify or excuse their behavior, but judging by the couple's young age, it's possible that they were unprepared for the realities of raising a child, and overwhelmed.

My theory (which I freely admit is unsubstantiated by anything more than hearsay and conjecture) is that one or both parties, in a fit of rage or frustration, lost their temper, and either shook the child resulting in her death, or was engaged in a domestic violence confrontation while the child was in the others' arms.

That the couple called 911 and flagged down the officer leads me to suspect (again, with no further evidence to support such suspicions) that there was no intent to harm the child--however, they would still probably the responsible party(s) with willful negligence amounting to intent to kill.

Unless, of course, unreleased info indicates a conspiracy to end the child's life, or an intent to mislead or withhold information; then I would assume direct intent, and charge murder-I accordingly.

That's so sad that a child was killed by someone so cruel. Who would hurt an innocent little girl? Who?

This should be public hanging for all involved with this baby's death. Because NOTHING is being done, children are being killed on a daily basis at the hands of their own parents!

This is such a sad story. Things just don't add up in this whole situation. If the baby was seen by the doctor that morning, then why didn't the doctor catch that there was something terribly wrong with the child? I knew of Angel and it breaks my heart to know that this has happened. I am still in shock. At least the baby is in Jesus' arms with a new body and doesn't have to go through anymore abuse. I will be praying for Angel and Matthew, as well as the extended family. However, they should suffer the consequences for their actions.

RKBA - "Turn these genius's loose in General Population and let the inmates administer the justice the "Justice System" surely won't."

They're safer in prison than in their mother's arms, because in prison, inmates often group together by crime and protect one another.

Prison ain't like it use to be.
