ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Two 15-year-olds have been arrested in connection with a Rocky Mount home invasion last week, police said Monday.

The teens, whose names were not released, are charged with attempted murder, two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a minor and conspiracy to commit a robbery. They were arrested on Friday.

Police said two people brandishing handguns burst into the home at 515 Edgecombe St. on Jan. 31 and demanded money. One gunman fired several shots, hitting homeowner Joseph Jerome Maxwell in the head and body, police said.

Maxwell, 42, was transported to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville for treatment of critical injuries, police said.

The robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of money, the phone from the house and other items, police said.
