Fayetteville, N.C. — Two men were arrested Wednesday in connection with the killings of two elderly Cumberland County men.
Brandon Miguel Avery, 20, of 6653 Hillbrook Road in Hope Mills, and Brandon Matthew Stewart, 22, of 2180 Baywood Road in Fayetteville, are each charged with two counts of first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Both men were arrested for the murders of James Bryant and James C. Stocks. Bryant, 72, was discovered inside his Oxford Street home in Fayetteville by a friend on Monday. The next day, Stocks, 76, was found lying in a pool of blood on the living room floor inside his Turnbull Road home in Cumberland County.
Fayetteville police detectives worked with investigators from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office on both cases.
"Both agencies, investigating separate homicides, discovered similarities in their cases and worked together to solve these crimes," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
Avery and Stewart remained in the Cumberland County jail Wednesday under no bond.
