ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — Halifax County deputies arrested two people during a traffic stop on N.C. Highway 48 near Heritage Lane in Roanoke Rapids.

A deputy pulled over the car for a motor vehicle violation. While a citation was being issued to the driver, Theresa Yvette Moody, the passenger, Terell Maurice Benjamin, fled the vehicle.

Benjamin was apprehended in a nearby wooded area.

Authorities said Benjamin was wanted by the state of New York for a probation violation. He had been on the run since September 2008.

Moody was wanted in Northampton County on outstanding worthless checks warrants. She was turned over to the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.

Benjamin, 33, of Garysburg, was charged with being a fugitive from another state and resisting arrest.

He was placed in the Halifax County jail, where he is awaiting extradition to New York for a Nov. 24 court date.
