Two arrested in connection with Durham convenience store robberies

Posted November 13, 2014

— Durham police arrested two men early Thursday in connection with armed robberies at two Kangaroo Express convenience stores.

Brandon Lewis Dent, 21, and Anthony James Ballard, 17, are each charged with two counts of armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a felon and conspiracy to commit robbery.

The first robbery happened at about 12:45 a.m. at the location along Guess Road at West Carver Street, and the second happened 30 minutes later at the intersection of Hope Valley Road and N.C. Highway 54, about 10 miles away.

According to an employee of the store on Hope Valley Road, the suspects entered the store and shopped around. When they came to the register they pulled out guns, went behind the register and stole cigarettes.

Police arrived at the second Kangaroo Express before the suspects left the scene, and the men ran into woods nearby. They were arrested after a brief chase.

I wish these two had chosen to direct their energy and attention towards positive pursuits. There's a bigger picture here to life and they have no clue. Maybe they will find it while sitting in a jail cell.

They're probably already back out. Bail should be prohibitively high for previously convicted felons as so often people are arrested for murder around here only to find out they a waiting trial for other violent crimes even for another murder.

Fine members of society I see. Keep them off the streets, enough of this 'take what I want' attitude. Work for it like the rest of us.

Take heed, people are tired of these gangsters.
