TUCSON, AZ — A TUSD program involves local dignitaries to help encourage students to attend class.

In the annual effort, local leaders including politicians and first responders walk around neighborhoods to visit children who have stopped going to school.

KGUN9's Carlos Herrera reports the effort is to help cut into the number of dropouts in the district. TUSD says 458 students dropped out in 2015.

Steps to Success has been in effect since 2014.
