    RFB, hot browns??

  • nceducator79 Nov 20, 2013

This isn't the best deal, but is what my family decided to try this year. We got a fresh, brined turkey at TJ's for $1.99 a pound. It was about 16 pounds...the smallest was about 14 pounds. My DH really wanted to try a fresh one this year. I did read that the best thing you can do is buy a cheap turkey and brine it...after I bought mine...LOL! I think it will be tasty though. TJ's never disappoints me!

jdouglas- thanks for the heads up!! I actually ended up ordering a fresh turkey breast from Fresh Market today since it's just going to be the 2 of us, plus enough leftovers for hot browns the next day :-) But, I'll keep an eye out for the future! Can't wait to try the chicken in the meantime!

Yesterday I got two turkeys (House of Raeford) at Walmart (40/42) for 45 cents a pound. No limit and you didn't have to have a certain dollar amount spent to get that price.

is the .79/lb at target a good deal?

  • jdouglas13 Nov 20, 2013

Dukefan, HT has fresh turkey breast for $1.99/lb. That's about the lowest I've seen on fresh. That said, a fresh turkey breast is MUCH easier to defrost than a whole turkey. It probably doesn't even take as long as a frozen whole chicken.

RFB, I saw that HT is going to have Bell & Evans fresh turkeys for $2.49/lb, in case you're interested. I might try one this year, as it has been a few years since we've had a turkey that tastes like turkey, even though we buy them fresh. The Bell and Evans chicken we had last night was sooooo good. DW can't stop talking about it, and that's really saying something.

But I'll still probably go to Lowes Food or Food Lion this week and get another 20lb turkey to keep in the freezer for Christmas.

Ended up buying our turkey last night. I was at HT and was looking at their turkeys just because. The manager of the meat department came over and told us about the $0.47/lb deal with $40 purchase. We said those turkeys were just too small (up to 14lbs) to feed our group of 15 people and we'd keep looking since we knew Food Lion has up to 24lbs. He then offered to sell us a larger fresh (not frozen) turkey at the frozen price. So we got a 20lb turkey and don't even have to worry about defrosting it! We will still probably cook up a venison roast to go with it since even a 20lb turkey can't feed all the boys in our family ;)

Faye, Do you know of any stores having a sale on fresh turkey breast? I don't need a whole turkey and I don't want to worry about defrosting a turkey breast.

Not sure if anyone has a Just Save near them, but they have the House of Raeford hens and tom turkeys for .43/lb with a $35 order. They also have Blue Bonnet sticks 3/$1 with a $20 order. They have other really good deals this week as well.
