RALEIGH, N.C. — House leadership outlines its process for voter ID legislation, and one House member proposes a resolution opposing any federal action that could infringe on gun rights in North Carolina.

Meanwhile, the Senate kicked legislation that would enact sweeping changes to several regulatory board and commissions to a conference committee, saying House amendments made it unacceptable. The Senate also gave key approval to a tax bill that allows the state earned-income tax credit to expire at the end of the year.

In non-legislative news, Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler bemoaned the impact of federal spending cuts on the state's beef industry, noting fewer meat inspectors could lead to higher prices. Also, Gov. Pat McCrory reiterated his support for issuing some young illegal immigrants driver's licenses that were markedly different than those routinely issued to North Carolina drivers.
