Tuesday Wrap: Hop on the omnibus

— The House gave tentative approval to an omnibus tax package, including a new levy on e-cigarettes and a provision that would cap the privilege license taxes that cities charge businesses at $100.

Meanwhile, the Senate sped a far-reaching natural gas drilling bill through two committees, and another Senate committee passed an array of regulatory reforms.

The most bizarre incident of the day occurred in the Senate Commerce Committee, where Chairman Rick Gunn had the sergeant-at-arms confiscate the recorder used by a reporter. Neither Gunn nor the Senate sergeant-at-arms could provide a reason why the recorder, which was later returned to the reporter, was taken.
