Tuesday Wrap: Common ground

— A House committee made the first move Tuesday to replace the Common Core educational standards in public schools, and the Senate is expected to take up its version of the bill Wednesday.

Gov. Pat McCrory and state business leaders expressed concern at the moves.

The House committee also approved a bill that allows school faculty to participate in student-led prayers, despite concerns raised by some lawmakers that the measure would invite lawsuits over its constitutionality.

    From another WRAL article about Common Core: "The 17-member Academic Standards Review Commission would be part of the state Department of Administration, not the Department of Public Instruction, and the panel would consist primarily of parents and educators."

    IMO, the whole "controversy" with Common Core is nothing but a smoke-screen in an attempt to wrest control of Public Education away from DPI and bring it under the control of Political Appointees...
