RALEIGH, N.C. — On Macaron Day 2014, Daniel Benjamin announced his plans to open downtown Raleigh bakery lucettegrace. Four years later, the day has become synonymous with raising money for a local charity in the Triangle.
On Tuesday (March 20), participating businesses will donate 25 percent of Macaron sales to local Meals on Wheels operations.
The Macaron Day celebration is inspired by the annual Jour du Macaron in Paris and Macaron Day in New York City. Macarons, the French crispy meringue cookies, are often confused with macaroons, which are chewy coconut cookies.
This year's participating venues are lucettegrace in downtown Raleigh, Guglhupf in Durham and Atelier Bakery in Winston-Salem.
