CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Transportation Security Administration says two men have been charged with trying to bring loaded guns onto planes at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Authorities say the two men tried to bring loaded guns through security checkpoints at about 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Thursday. They don't believe the attempts are related.

TSA officers detected the guns and ammunition as the men passed through the airport checkpoints. The passengers were charged with carrying a firearm on airport property.

According to Charlotte television station WCNC, one of the men charged was Edward Scott Richards, a 55-year-old from Holly Springs.

TSA officers have detected nine firearms at Charlotte airport checkpoints so far this year after finding 53 firearms there last year.
