Touring Tryon Palace during Free Day
Tryon Palace in New Bern will host its annual Free Day to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday.

Visitors can enjoy free tours of the Governor's Palace, Kitchen Office, Stable Office, and Dixon and Stanly houses (just the first floors); access to 16 acres of gardens; and crafts and activities, according to a press release.

Tryon Palace, a state historic site, is home of the Governor's Palace, North Carolina's first colonial and first state capitol, and includes historic buildings and gardens.

You'll also find the North Carolina History Center, which features some great interactive technology which really bring history alive for kids and adults. During Free Day, visitors can get 10 percent off gallery passes to see the exhibits inside the North Carolina History Center. (Passes are usually $12 for adults and $6 for kids).

New Bern is about two hours from Raleigh. Tryon Place and the history center are definitely worth the drive!
