I-40 truck crash cause backup
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A truck crash on Interstate 40 eastbound in Orange County overnight snarled the morning rush hour as traffic backed up for miles.

The double-axle box truck ran off the right side of the road near mile marker 268 and down an embankment about 4:30 a.m., the Highway patrol reported.

The truck stopped behind a guardrail, troopers said.

The right lane of the two-lane eastbound highway was closed as emergency workers, wreckers and trucks for off-loading cargo gathered around the wrecked truck.

The driver received minor injuries, the patrol said.

Before 8 a.m., traffic cameras along I-40 showed cars and trucks backed up well into Orange County. Officials said it would take some time to reopen the right lane of the road.
