DURHAM, N.C. — A man who stole a truck in Hillsborough eluded law enforcement agents in the city and county of Durham Thursday.

A white Ford truck was stolen from a construction site in Hillsborough on Thursday morning, officials said.

Durham County sheriff's deputies spotted a truck matching that description on Interstate 85 North around 11 a.m. The truck was going more than 100 mph, and deputies were unable to keep up.

A deputy saw the truck again near police headquarters on Chapel Hill Street around 3 p.m. The deputy gave chase but backed off due to heavy traffic.

Shortly after, deputies found a car that had run off the road into some bushes. The suspect apparently ran into the car and drove off. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Authorities found the stolen truck about 30 minutes later. The driver had abandoned the vehicle at an ABC store along Chapel Hill Road.

A police K9 failed to pick up a scent belonging to the suspect, and the suspect remained at large Thursday night, deputies said.

The owner of the stolen truck had it towed back to Hillsborough.
