Truck dumps load of wood on I-95

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol closed all northbound lanes of the highway near Exit 87, Keen Road, and troopers were directing northbound drivers to U.S. Highway 301 as a detour. Traffic was backed up for more than 5 miles just before 5 p.m.

By 5:30 p.m., troopers had traffic moving in the area but expected one lane to remain closed until about 8 p.m.

Troopers said the driver of a flatbed trailer did not notice traffic ahead of him slowing to merge and to avoid a Department of Transportation work crew. When the driver of the flatbed finally hit his brakes, the sudden action caused his load to swerve and slide off the truck. Some wood hit a car behind the truck, and that car spun into another vehicle pulling a camper.

The driver of the truck was not injured. The other two drivers were taken to a nearby hospital. Neither had life-threatening injuries, troopers said. 

Authorities did not release the names of any of those involved.
