— A truck driver was injured Friday morning when his tractor-trailer overturned as he rounded a ramp on eastbound Interstate 540 in Knightdale.

Officials said the accident happened just before 11 a.m. on the ramp that connects to eastbound U.S. Highway 64. Traffic was being rerouted onto westbound U.S. 64, and the ramp was expected to remain closed until about 3 p.m.

Details on how the wreck happened and the extent of the driver's injuries were not immediately released. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital.

The accident was the second involving a tractor-trailer that snarled traffic in the region Friday morning.

About 11 a.m. in Raleigh, a truck hauling a trailer home hit a bridge as the driver exited from southbound Capital Boulevard onto eastbound Interstate 440.

Transportation officials said the rig was on the ramp when the trailer hit the underside of the Capital Boulevard bridge.

The trailer was damaged, but the bridge was OK, officials said. The driver was unhurt.

One lane was blocked as crews cleared the scene.

Pseudonym: while you are correct in the literal dictionary definition, it terms of "wrecks" there are no "accidents" (a true accident is very rare). There can almost always be something attributed to what a driver did wrong to cause the wreck. Sometimes it can even get traced back to something done wrong by someone other than the driver such as a mechanic. Ultimately, a true "accident" is rare.

Quote from dare107: "There is no such thing as a traffic accident! It is a traffic crash, someone did something wrong to cause it and that is not an accident."

Accident (noun):An undesirable or unfortunate happening that occurs unintentionally and usually results in harm, injury, damage, or loss; casualty; mishap: automobile accidents.

There is no such thing as a traffic accident! It is a traffic crash, someone did something wrong to cause it and that is not an accident. Two vehicles can not occupy the same space at the same time without someone having cause that!

    1 on 540 and 2 on I-95...slow down people!

Instead of everyone assuming that the driver was speeding, why don't we wait for the actual report to come out. Anyone who has ever driven a truck OR anyone who knows anyone who has driven a truck knows how quickly a load can shift, and when it does - the truck can rock instantly and roll EVEN IF you are going the speed limit. We don't yet know if he/she was speeding, load shifted, animal darted in front of them or anything else SO UNTIL WE DO why don't we stop making accusations?
