Tropical disturbance tracking away from Carolina coast
A tropical disturbance that has been soaking the Wilmington and Cape Fear areas over the past couple of days is headed north and east away from the coast, WRAL meteorologist Nate Johnson said.

"There are drier days ahead for our coastal communities," Johnson said.
While the chance for an afternoon thunderstorm remains, the likelihood dips from 50 percent Tuesday to just 20 percent by Saturday.
The weather system centered over the Cape Fear area was moving north and east away from the Carolina coast and was not expected to intensify into a tropical storm, Johnson said.
Even as far inland as the Triangle, the system will make itself felt as it moves away.
"The sinking air on the outside of this will make it even hotter here than it might have been," Johnson said. The Triangle forecast calls for a high temperature of 97 with heat index values pushing 100 degrees and about 50 percent humidity.
