MORRISVILLE, N.C. — A 22-year-old man was in critical condition Friday night after two vehicles rear-ended him as he drove well below the speed limit on Interstate 40 West on Friday night.

Troopers say Agenor Rosales Giron was driving about 10 mph on the highway shortly before 8 p.m. when a work truck hit his vehicle from behind on the highway near Aviation Parkway. The truck driver pulled over, but Giron continued driving about 10 mph, authorities said.

Two more cars then came up behind him. The first driver was able to swerve and avoid him, but the second driver plowed into the back of Giron’s car, troopers said.

Giron was taken to Duke University Hospital, where he was in critical condition. No one else was injured. Troopers said they don’t know why Giron was driving so slowly. No charges have been filed.
