— A 71-year-old pedestrian was killed Monday afternoon when she was struck by a car on Munns Road in Granville County, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Troopers were dispatched to the area after reports of a woman lying on the side of the road. Linda Michalina was found dead at the scene.

Michalina lived at 15 Munns Road, not far from where she was hit, troopers said. They believe the driver might also live nearby.

Anyone with information is asked to call the state Highway Patrol or Granville County Sheriff's Office.

Eth82: It was family there and they were on the edge of their property. Her body landed in the driveway of her son. Depending on when you got there some of those people may have been from the investigation team.

This is so sad. I travel this road every morning and evening. I knew something was up when I was heading home yesterday and there were about 30-40 cars pulled on the side of the road where this happened and about 40-50 people standing in and next to the road. I dont know if it was family meeting there or what...did notice one man crying and others hugging him (it was probably his mother). But it was rather dangerous for all of those ppl to be standing so close to the edge of the road and many standing in the road...there were even children sitting on the edge of the road...cars had to crawl by and change lanes just to get through. I do see older ladys walking this road alot... I bet one of those was this lady. Sad!

Sad for the old lady, and also sad that there are so many people with no conscience who would keep driving rather than risk a ticket and a fine. Too little value on human life.

It's not safe to ride a bicycle or walk along the road anywhere around here. Sad.

I live in rural Granville Co. and I see people all the time going about 3 feet off the side of the road or over the center line. I assume they are texting.

Our society has become one of no consequences and no regret. Parents of the last generation failed to instill the values that grandparents did many years ago.

How on earth can you hit another human being and then drive away and leave them for dead?! What is wrong with this world?!

I don't buy for a second the 'didn't know they hit someone' argument either... I've hit squirrels that ran in front of me and known it.
