RALEIGH, N.C. — Officials said a Honda car was traveling in reverse on Interstate 40 early Sunday morning when another car crashed into it, killing the Honda's driver.

A 2010 Honda was being driven by 39-year-old Benito Porras Martinez on I-40 at Old Reedy Creek Road, which is near Aviation Parkway, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The Honda was traveling in reverse when a white Chevrolet car crashed into it just before 3 a.m.

The driver of the Chevy, Nichole Lakishia Johnson, 30, of Annapolis, Md., and passenger Lakhisa Beatrice Matthews, 35, of Philadelphia, were taken to Duke University Hospital. Johnson was treated and released, while Matthews was listed in good condition.

A passenger in the Honda, Yomini Florentin Vasquez, 28, of Durham, was taken to WakeMed with minor injuries.

Investigators believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash, though it's unclear why the driver of the Honda was traveling in reverse.
