Troopers: Marine arrested after high-speed motorcycle chase

State troopers arrested a 19-year-old Marine Sunday night after he led authorities on a high-speed motorcycle chase through Johnston and Sampson counties, according to Trooper C. J. Bell.

Around 9:15 p.m., a trooper clocked a motorcycle going 144 mph on Interstate 40 East around mile marker 331 near Meadow.

After leading authorities on a chase for 12 miles, Tyler Hepps stopped the motorcycle and surrendered, troopers said.

Hepps, 19, of Raleigh, was charged with felony speeding to elude, driving 144 mph in a 70 mph zone, running a stop sign, no motorcycle endorsement and reckless driving. No one was injured.

Hepps is a Marine from New River Air Station.
