Troopers investigate wrecks in Wake, Johnston counties

Posted May 27, 2010

— The Highway Patrol was investigating two wrecks that happened within 5 miles of each other late Wednesday into early Thursday.

Rebecca Elizabeth Evans, 26, of Angier, died after her SUV went off Mount Pleasant Road in Willow Spring and hit a tree, according to Trooper Butler.

In Raleigh, troopers charged Andrea Zani, 18, with careless and reckless driving after she lost control of her car, drove off the road and hit a utility pole on Mal Weathers Road around 12:45 a.m.

She was driving about 80 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone, according to Trooper Matt Cape.

Zani and her two passengers suffered scratches and bruises.  Mal Weathers Road was closed while crews replaced the pole.

    1) Mal Weathers runs right beside my house and I'm here to tell you that most of the cars, trucks and motorcycles fly down this road. 2) This road is curvy and people don't care. 3)If you really think she wasn't speeding, I feel sorry for you. The speed limit is 35, not 45,50,55,60,65 ect.... So say she was doing 45 well she was still speeding.

Several of us are waiting for an accident with a fatality on this road b/c a lot of people speed. Drive smart not stupid!

    On a more serious note.
If you don't have any constructive to say... Grow up.
Don't sit here and just give negative feedback because this is the internet, and it makes people have the biggest egos in the world. If you don't have something good to say, don't say it.
    It's not helping.
It's not beneficial in any way.

-Please grow up and be the adult you CLAIM to be.

    Ok thanks.

Typical bored internet surfers. Feeling the need to give their nonconstructive criticisms as always.
So I'm guessing all the experts(by this I mean keyboard news forum experts) in this room have perfect driving records. And they're so experienced about driving they can tell me all about weight differential/shifting during braking and acceleration and how it can effect oversteer/understeer balance of the car.
And I'm pretty sure most of you won't even know these terms until you decide to google to reply to this comment.

So heres my 2cents. Why don't you stop talking about it and be about it. Why don't you go start some public classes and teach us all how to drive with your expertise in this area. And then you can post your perfect Driving record in plain view for us all to see how perfect a driver you are. And how you're such pro drivers you make michael schumacher looks like he just got his license.

    -Please note the sarcasm.

really? you are ok with an 18 year old voting for your president but you are not ok with them driving...? that makes a whole lot of since, we have jobs to get to and school (not public which provides transpertation) that we have to drive to, but just because SOME of us teens drive too fast you want to take our right to drive... well then why dont you go ahead and take peoples liscence who are over 60 for driving too slow, and people who have anger management problems for road rage, and X cons for a threat to the public drivers, yea see how much since im making... grow up and think a little bit about the whole situation before u make decisions on who can drive and who cant!

Why did cops need to go to these wrecks? The public knows how to handle everything better than them.

  • thought May 27, 2010

Why is an 18 year old even out at that time? I know they are considered an adult- but....... Parents need to teach their child rules of the road. People kepe saying drivers education- one more excuse not to be a parent. I am sick of the drivers here. SLOW DOWN. and yes people of all ages and types of cars speed here.

and if it's a newer car, that black box under the seat will tell them "how fast" to something like 4 decimal places.

"Southern Lady-that would explain why the SHP was on the scene of the crash on Davis Drive the other morning. I thought it strange to see troopers out there, but wondered to myself if it was b/c they had more experience with accident recreation"

Yes, a lot of times their reconstruction team is called in by other departments. They are very highly trained and specalized in this area.

Teens are driving too early. Simple driver education classes are not enough. They are not mature, they are in their own world.

the people weren't paying attention or were texting, a law you can't and will never enforce, so there, investigation over. Until this state mans up and raises the driving age to match the drinking age, keep your pad and pen in your hands and keep wasting our tax dollars.
