A man was flown to a hospital Sunday evening after being found laying in a roadway near Robbins in Moore County, troopers said.

MOORE COUNTY, N.C. — A man was flown to a hospital Sunday evening after being found laying in a roadway near Robbins in Moore County, troopers said. 

The accident happened on NC Highway 705 near Old Carthage Road around 6:00 p.m.

Initially dispatched to emergency responders as a pedestrian struck by a vehicle, emergency workers arrived to find an injured man lying in the middle of the roadway. According to investigators, it appeared the man had been riding a dirt bike and possibly had been hit by a vehicle.

The man, identified by a family member as Christopher Thomas, was taken by medical helicopter to the hospital where he later died, authorities said. 

The incident remains under investigation.
